Journey started off as a progressive rock band, and made huge changes with lineup and sound as they developed musically, moving from guitar-led beginnings to a pop sound in with their fourth album “Infinity.” Most recent lineup changes have included the recruitment of Fillipino Arnel Pineda, found via YouTube, and requiring a strong statement from the band with regards to racism from some fans. “We've become a world band. We're international now. We're not about one color.”
Their efforts have resulted in no fewer than 18 Top 40 singles, two at number one and six in the top ten, saw a massive revival of their 1981 hit “Don’t Stop Believin’” in 2005, seeing it shoot to number 3 on the iTunes chart downloads. Their songs are arena rock standards, and their sales worldwide have resulted in two albums certified gold, eight multi-platinum, and one diamond. It’s big news for America’s most-loved rock band this year – their final induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in April.
