The Chainsmokers was formed as an EDM duo back in 2012 and started putting out remixes for indie bands. In 2013, their single “#Selfie” was released and picked up by Dim Mak Records + later streamed via Republic Records in 2014. That song marked a monumental shift for the duo’s career. Alex Pall had shared that the track was “life-changing.”
In 2015, their single “Roses,” feat. Rozes hit the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100, and has since been awarded 6x Platinum by the RIAA. At the time, the duo shared how special the song felt — sharing how they knew they had something big going on as it had The Chainsmokers signature feel to it plus notes taken from various influences.
“I think that’s what’s cool about it and why people are enjoying it because it doesn’t feel and sound like everything that’s on the radio right now. But it’s catchy and accessible. I think it’s refreshing,” the duo shared with Mike Wass of Idolator.
From then on, The Chainsmokers went full-blast with massive bops put out here and there. 2016 & 2017 marked their biggest years with the release of “Closer” featuring Halsey which gave them their first #1 Hot 100 hit, bagging a 15x Platinum certification. Their next single “All We Know” feat. Phoebe Ryan was another massive success, and they were subsequently ranked #18 on DJ Magazine’s “Top 100 DJs” list in October 2016.
