Choctaw Grand Theater | Durant, Oklahoma
Latin rock guitar virtuoso Carlos Santana is coming to Choctaw Grand Theater on Saturday 8th July 2017! That's right, it's time to catch Santana LIVE – be sure to book your tickets, as they are bound to sell out!
First catching attention at Woodstock festival in 1969 with their performance of “Soul Sacrifice” the Santana band stood out for their Latin and African world rhythms and instrumentation including congas and timbales, mixed with more typical blues and rock influenced guitar lines. Their first album, simply titled “Santana” was a huge hit. As band, they have since won nine Grammy Awards and three Latin Grammy awards, and sold more than 90 million records across the word – giving them the prestige of being one of the best-selling groups of all time! As a solo artist, Carlos Santana has also won a Grammy award, and has been listed by Rolling Stone as number 20 in the list of the 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time.
Born in Jalisco, Mexico, Santana had a musical upbringing, learning to play violin from the tender age of 5 and guitar from the age of 8, receiving tuition from his father, a mariachi (an ancient form of Mexican musical expression) musician. With this background entrenched in Latin roots, Santana discovered as a teenager blues and rock based artists of the 50's such as BB King, T-Bone, and John Lee Hooker, as well as jazz and folk music. Once a dishwasher, using his musical talents to busk on the streets, Santana then made the plunge for a career as a full-time musician.
Seven albums and umpteen awards and nominations later, he is still going strong, and it is our pleasure to have him perform at the Choctaw Grand Theater. Make sure you're there sharing the Santana experience with us!
